Dog-friendly Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate

As the dog-byelaws are lifted on our sandy beaches and bays from the 1st October, we wanted to shout from the rooftops that dogs are welcome, not just at this time of year, but year round too! Many of our visitors to the Information Centre are often pleasantly surprised with how dog-friendly our local businesses are and have a fantastic time exploring the range of welcoming cafes, restaurants, bars and attractions in Thanet.

Unlike some destinations, the Autumn/Winter sees a complete lift on all restrictions meaning every single one of our beaches is ready for you to explore with your four-legged friend! From the hidden sea caves of Kingsgate Bay, to the wide expanse of golden beach on Margate’s Main SandsΒ and everything in between, this is the best time to visit for a dog-friendly break to Margate, Broadstairs or Ramsgate. Walk part or whole of the epic Viking Coastal Trail without restrictions and reward yourself with a fresh ale, cider or hot chocolate in one of our dog-friendly micropubs or coffee shops!Β In some cases, you might even have the beaches to yourselves at the time of year! What are you waiting for?!

Don’t forget to watch out for winter birds during October to March, as they can be easily disturbed by dogs and need to be protected. To find out more about responsible dog walking and how you can look after our coastal environment, click here.

For dog-friendly inspiration, we have some great guides over on our website to help you plan the best dog-friendly break EVER!*, including a list of pubs, bars, coffee shops and restaurants, hotels and self-catering options and attractions which all welcome dogs. Plus here you’ll find the dog byelaws should you wish to plan a visit for spring or summer.

In the meantime, check out these photos of dogs enjoying our beaches!
